Guide
Why isn't my Shopify store selling?
When a Shopify store gets visitors but few sales, the problem is usually in one of five places: the traffic, the product page, trust, checkout, or follow-up. Here's how to check each one.
In short
- Traffic: make sure visitors come from searches and ads that match what you sell.
- Product page: price, shipping cost, delivery time, and good photos, all easy to find on a phone.
- Trust: reviews, a clear return policy, and real contact details.
- Checkout: surprise shipping costs and extra steps lose buyers at the last moment.
- Follow-up: abandoned-checkout emails and retargeting bring back people who almost bought.
1. Is the traffic right?
Lots of visitors who were never going to buy look like a store problem but are really a traffic problem.
- Check by source: in Shopify's reports, compare sessions and orders by where visitors came from.
- Check intent: broad social traffic often browses; search and Shopping traffic often buys.
- Check tracking: if your ads can't see purchases, they can't find more buyers.
2. Does the product page answer the questions?
- Price and shipping: shown near the add-to-cart button, not discovered at checkout.
- Delivery time: when it will arrive, in plain words.
- Photos: real ones, from several angles, with scale and detail.
- Fit, size, or use: the one thing buyers worry about for your product, answered on the page.
- Mobile layout: most shoppers are on phones; check the page on yours.
3. Do new visitors trust you?
- Reviews: on the product page, not hidden on a separate page.
- Returns: a short, clear policy linked near the price.
- Contact details: a real email, and a way to ask a question before buying.
- Your story: who makes this and why, in a few lines.
4. Where does checkout lose people?
Shopify's conversion reports show how many sessions add to cart, reach checkout, and complete a purchase. The biggest drop tells you where to look.
- Big drop before cart: the product page or the traffic.
- Big drop between cart and checkout: shipping cost surprises, or a cart that's hard to use on mobile.
- Big drop inside checkout: extra steps, forced account creation, or missing payment options.
5. Do you follow up?
- Abandoned-checkout emails: Shopify can send these; make sure they're on and well written.
- Retargeting: ads that remind recent visitors what they looked at.
- Partners: creators and newsletters who already have your buyers' attention. Sorry Mama lets you run your own affiliate program and pay only on verified sales.
6. Is the store fast?
Every app you install can add code to your theme. Remove apps you don't use, compress large images, and test your top product page on a phone over a normal connection.

- Open your top product page on your phone. Can you see price, shipping, and delivery time without hunting?

Common questions
Why do I have traffic but no sales on Shopify?
Usually one of five things: visitors who don't match what you sell, product pages that hide price, shipping, or delivery time, too little trust (reviews, returns, contact), checkout surprises, or no follow-up for people who almost bought.
How do I find where buyers drop off?
Use Shopify's conversion reports to compare sessions, add-to-carts, checkouts reached, and purchases. The step with the biggest drop is where to start.
Should I spend more on ads to fix low sales?
Not before the store converts. More traffic into a leaky store mostly buys more leaks. Fix the product page, trust, and checkout first, and make sure purchases are tracked so ads can learn.
